Surfer Dogs are Taking over San Diego

Canines are extraordinary for many reasons. They care for us, they protect us, they love us, and they surf! San Diego is home to numerous surfing competitions throughout the summer, but did you know they have two specifically for dogs? Mark your calendars and bring your furry friends to watch these athletic canines hang twenty. From what we’ve heard, the competition is pretty “ruff.”

Imperial Beach Surf Dog Competition

Head to Imperial Beach on August 10th from 8am to 2pm for a day of fun in the sand at the Imperial Beach Surf Dog Competition. Watch surFUR dogs knock out the competition with their boarding skills, say hi to the 60-plus competitors, and help raise money for the San Diego Humane Society. Enjoy the surFUR expo, beer garden, and awards ceremony after the competition.

Location: 23 miles from the hotel

14th Annual Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon

Mark your calendar for the 14th Annual Surf Dog Surf-A-Thon at the Del Mar Dog Beach on September 8. Grab a spot on the sand and cheer on the furry competitors while they catch wave after wave!  Enjoy this festive event, with lots of dog friendly booths and wrap up with the fun dog costume contest and awards ceremony.  All proceeds go to help orphaned dogs at the Helen Woodward Animal Center. Join in on the fun prior to the event with dog surf lessons, presented by the Helen Woodward Animal Center and SoCal Surf Dogs.
