Party in the Park and Show Your Love For the Planet

As the largest free annual environmental fair in the world, EarthFair at Balboa Park is a legend across the globe. Now gearing up for its 29th year of green-themed exhibitions, educational activities, and entertainment for all ages, EarthFair will bring a whole new crop of volunteers, exhibitors, educators, and parade-goers to Balboa Park on April 22, 2018. Join them and see all the great ways the city of San Diego has worked to help our environment in the last year.

Who You’ll See

Each year, the EarthFair draws around 60,000 visitors, with a cast of 300 volunteers and exhibitors alike working to bring it all to life. You already knew San Diego is an environmentally-minded city, but you’ll be astounded at the showing: environmental organizations, governmental program and businesses, wildlife preservation groups, artisans selling organic products, ecotourism agencies, pet adoption services, and alternative energy vehicle companies.

What You’ll Do

You can expect to see a thriving Food Pavilion, a special Children’s Activity Area, and four entertainment venues. Kids will be enthralled with their entertainment options—the Children’s Earth Parade, Activity Area, and Dr. Wilderness Family Magic Show have all been wildly popular in years past. Adults will enjoy perusing the eARTh Gallery arts and crafts show, and the Cleaner Car Concourse is a real treat for anyone interested in alternative fuels and vehicles. The Moon Stage (at Park and Presidents Way) and Sun Stage (behind the Federal Building) will feature a variety of contemporary music by local artists. And of course, wake up early and you won’t miss a moment of the Earth Day Parade (“all species and ages welcome”) beginning at 10:30 AM by the Spanish Village.

What You’ll Learn

EarthFair strives to be a zero-waste event, so everything that is discarded is either recycled, reused, or composted. In addition to learning about all these processes (which saw 90% of waste from last year’s Fair diverted from landfills), the vast variety of educational displays, organizations, and performances mean that your curiosity will come into play. Discover how eco-friendly homes are built, or about newly-discovered marine species; it’s great to combine a new perspective with a day of pure fun.

Celebrate Earth Day in San Diego while staying with us, and join the cavalcade of clean cars, green treats, and much more.
