Pacific Terrace Employees Share Their Favorite Local Craft Beers

It’s almost impossible to live in San Diego County, “the Craft Beer Capital of America,” without acquiring an encyclopedic knowledge of all things brew. We’ve drawn on our own staff members’ beer expertise and compiled the below introductions to their craft beers of choice.

Evan, Bellman: Tony Hawps, Black Plague Brewing

Brewed by Black Plague Brewing, in Oceanside, Tony Hawps is a collaboration between San Diego’s own skateboard legend, Tony Hawk, Birdhouse Skateboards, and Black Plague Brewing. This brew is occasionally featured at Pacific Beach’s Barrel Republic. Home of the revolutionary self-pour tap system, this spot is the undisputed mecca for craft beer lovers!

Bob, Engineering: Ballast Point Sculpin, Ballast Point Brewery

Ballast Point Sculpin is part of the Flagship Series at Ballast Point Brewery, located in Little Italy, 15 minutes from the Pacific Terrace. This renowned brewery prides itself on a brewing technique that’s equal parts artistic and scientific. (All brews are required to meet more than 300 quality checkpoints) With apricot, lemon, mango, and peach flavors, this multi-award-winning ale is one of the brewery’s greatest hits.

Alejandra, Housekeeping: Horchata Golden Stout, Border X Brewery

Incorporating vanilla beans and cinnamon sticks, Border X Brewery’s Horchata Golden Stout evokes the namesake beverage, a popular refreshment in surrounding Barrio Logan. Barrio Logan is just 15 minutes from the Pacific Terrace and is an up-and-coming  destination for brew pubs.

Sarah, Reservations: Coronado Orange Wit, Coronado Brewing Company

An homage to Coronado’s formerly orange-lined main street, Coronado Brewing Company’s earthy, spicy, citrusy witbier (“white beer” in Dutch) is known for its surprising notes of orange zest and orange-blossom honey. Coronado Brewery is a short 15 minute drive from the Pacific Terrace Hotel.
