ABOUT US

COME PLAY ON THE SAN DIEGO BAY

The San Diego Bay offers a huge selection of activities to please everyone. Located just west of downtown San Diego, the "Big Bay" is one of the first things you see when you land at San Diego's Lindberg Field Airport. It stretches 34 miles along the San Diego waterfront, offering a wide array of superb scenery and lively activities.

Grab your family, pack a picnic and hit one of the many waterfront parks along the bay. One of San Diego's newest additions is Waterfront Park, directly in front of the iconic San Diego County Administration Building. The park features an interactive fountain and "splash zones," for those wanting to cool off in a spectacular setting. The park also offers beautiful gardens, picnic areas, and state-of-the-art play zones for the kids.

Want to tour the bay? Tour San Diego Bay by water on a one or two hour narrated harbor tour, or rent a sailboat and take on the bay yourself! Make a splash on the San Diego Seals Tour, which offers land and water tours in their amphibious vehicles. Other fun options include whale watching, biking along the Bayfront path, or frolicking in the water at the new Waterfront Park.

The USS Midway Museum and the San Diego Maritime Museum offer visitors a fascinating look into San Diego nautical & Naval history, and SeaPort Village and the new Headquarters at SeaPort are the places to go for unique shopping and dining experiences.

There is something for everyone on San Diego's Big Bay.

FAQS

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO SEE THE SAN DIEGO BAY?

While some visitors prefer to take a leisurely stroll along the bay, and others enjoy jumping into a pedi-cab, there is yet another option for visitors to cover more ground. The Big Bay Shuttle, available seasonally May 22, 2015 through Labor Day, is a great way to visit the many attractions and parks, especially on the outlying areas of the Bayfront.

WHERE SHOULD I DINE?

San Diego has no shortage of exceptional restaurants. Some favorites include:

  • C Level - Harbor Island
  • Eddie V’s Prime Seafood - Downtown along the Bay
  • Roy’s Restaurant - Downtown along the Bay
  • Jimmy’s Famous American Tavern - Point Loma

WHY SHOULD WE VISIT THE USS MIDWAY MUSEUM?

Experience the "Floating City at Sea" that was home to over 225,000 American sailors. The USS Midway Museum features over 60 exhibits, and guests can tour the ship at their leisure using a self-guided audio tour. Enjoy the San Diego Sunshine from the top decks while exploring the 29 restored aircraft located on board. Experience the life of an aviator in the Midway’s flight simulators, and hear personal stories from the incredibly knowledgeable docents.
