For the thirteenth season, summer concerts have returned to the Birch Aquarium at Scripps. While massive outdoor festivals can be fun, we love the more low-key, folksy vibe of the monthly Green Flash concert series.
Combining live music with panoramic ocean views, the Green Flash concert series is held on the Tide-Pool Plaza at the Birch Aquarium. The plaza features living tide pools filled with sea stars, sea anemones, hermit crabs, sea cucumbers, and more. Overlooking La Jolla and the Pacific Ocean, this beautiful outdoor venue offers some of the best views in San Diego. Concert goers should look out for the real “green flash,” which is a rare optical phenomenon caused by refraction of light as the sun set on the horizon.
The series kicked off in May with a rousing performance by Jumping Jack Flash. Next up, catch Steve Poltz on Wednesday, June 20, followed by The FIXX on Wednesday, July 9. The August 15 performer has yet to be announced; however, Pine Mountain Logs and Venice will take the stage on September 26.
Admission to Green Flash includes concert attendance, parking, and entrance to all aquarium exhibits starting at 5:30pm. Don’t leave before checking out some of the awe-inspiring marine life, from the Giant Kelp Forest to the Hall of Fishes. The Scripps Aquarium is located 15 minutes from the Pacific Terrace Hotel.
