Best Beachfront Breakfasts in San Diego

Breakfast — it’s the most important meal of the day. There’s just no better way to get started on an exploratory adventure than to fuel up with some fantastic food. And since “America’s Finest City” has such a world-class restaurant culture, you don’t have to settle for lackluster cuisine while you’re here. Even better: grabbing a morning meal beachside isn’t just possible, it’s practically mandatory. So if you’re on the hunt for the best beachfront brunches and breakfasts San Diego has to offer, here are some of our favorites.

Introducing Chef Michael

There’s no better way to start your morning than with a delicious day-maker courtesy of our very own Chef Michael. He’s a brand-new addition to the Pacific Terrace team, and will be crafting our signature à-la carte breakfast plates right on-site from our brand new poolside and oceanfront Terrace Cafe. The menu includes all your favorites, like made-to-order omelets, fresh fruit, french toast, waffles, pancakes, and more. Your best bet for breakfast is just moments away!

The Duck Dive (0.2 miles from the hotel)

The Duck Dive is not only a laid-back, surf-centric lounge and a great place to kick back and enjoy a bite or a drink just steps from the water, they’re located within a two-minute walk of our front door. They’re also one of the few eateries in the area that offers brunch every day — not just on weekends. So come for the chorizo hash, breakfast burritos, turkey and bacon Benedict and candied walnut French toast, and stay for the stunning oceanside views.

Cove House (4.1 miles)

Cove House is a well-kept secret among locals, but it’s long past time we gave up the details on this charming oceanfront oasis. Built just steps from the seaside, Cove House serves some of the most craveable brunches in the city. Stone crab Benedict? It’s on the menu. Loco Moco burger with hatch chile gravy, two eggs and Jasmine rice? You’ll find it here. Apple pie French toast? We’ve never had better. Grab a table outside, and enjoy.

OB Surf Lodge (5.3 miles)

This beachside bistro is an hómage to the origins of 1960’s San Diego beach culture. The breezy dining room sits just steps from Ocean Beach, and celebrates all things Pacific. And although the vibe has a distinct “throwback” feel, the approach to the menu is decidedly modern. Every item on the menu isn’t just fresh and made to order, it’s sourced locally, responsibly and sustainably. So you can feel even better about every bite.

Overlooking the serenely scenic Pacific Beach, Waterbar serves up fantastic food, incomparable views, and one of the area’s best drink menus. Brunch is on every Saturday and Sunday from 9am – 3pm, and is made up of can’t-miss dishes like prosciutto toast, shrimp and grits, huevos rancheros, steak and eggs, and pigs in a blanket. The kitchen kicks it all out fast and fresh, and carefully crafted from local and sustainable sources.

Tom Ham’s hosts one of the most popular brunches in town. The setting? Elegant, refined and right on the harbor. The food? Exquisite. Enjoy a custom egg masterpiece from the omelet bar, fresh salads and vegetable selections, buttermilk waffles, artisan sausage, cinnamon French toast, and much more. And lest we forget, the lunch-leaning plates are just as delectable. Don’t miss out on the Moroccan fried chicken, beer-braised short rib hash, seared yellowtail or Maine Lobster claws.

Duke’s La Jolla (10.8 miles)

Duke’s is as San Diego as it gets. Named in honor of Olympic medalist and surfing legend Duke Kahanamoku, this oceanside staple has been a locals’ favorite for years. Brunch is offered from 10am – 3pm every Saturday and Sunday, and includes a deliciously dizzying array of favorites, including fresh-squeezed juices, eggs benedict, coconut French toast, and banana nut pancakes. The only thing tastier than the belly-busting brunch? The sweeping views of the Pacific that come complimentary on the side.
