Family Frights & Grown-Up Nights: Halloween in San Diego

By Pacific Terrace Hotel

October in San Diego makes it easy to plan a little bit of everything into one getaway. Families can take advantage of Kids Free October and seasonal events around the city, while adults have plenty of ways to turn a fall evening into a date night, from hidden cocktail bars to candlelit concerts.

Staying with us at Pacific Terrace puts you right on the beach in the middle of it all. Start close to home with Halloween festivities here in Pacific Beach, venture out for a few of San Diego's favorite family events, or plan an adults-only night out after sunset. We pulled together some unique ways to celebrate Halloween season, starting with family-friendly fun and ending with four date-night ideas worth dressing up for.

Family-Friendly Frights

Daytime is for treats! We have listed these favorites from nearest to farthest from the hotel, so you can plan your costume changes accordingly.

Pacific Beach Zombie Walk and Trick-or-Treat

Friday, October 30, 2026 | About half a mile from Pacific Terrace

The scariest street in town is practically your front yard. On October 30, Garnet Avenue becomes the center of Pacific Beach Halloween, with kids trick-or-treating at participating local businesses before a zombie procession shuffles through after dark. Little ghouls get an early evening of candy, and families can stay for the undead parade. Because the hotel is a short stroll away, there is no parking nightmare and no long drive home, just a quick walk back to the beach.

Belmont Park Beachside Fall Fest

Belmont Park Pumpkins

Through October 31, 2026 | About 2 miles from Pacific Terrace

Belmont Park trades summer for fall with classic amusement park rides, retro displays, live music, and seasonal treats, all with the Pacific as a backdrop. Trick-or-treating is free throughout the park every Sunday in October, and Kids Free October makes the rides even sweeter: kids 12 and under get one free wristband with each adult wristband purchased using promo code KIDSFREE. Want to make it a getaway? Pair your visit with Pacific Terrace's Fun in the Sun package, which includes Belmont Park tickets with two tickets to ride the Giant Dipper Roller Coaster.

SeaWorld San Diego Halloween Spooktacular

SeaWorld San Diego Spooktacular Sign

Fridays through Sundays through November 1, 2026 | About 4 miles from Pacific Terrace

SeaWorld's daytime Halloween event is gentle on the scares and big on the smiles. This year brings the California debut of the all-new Baby Shark Halloween Show, plus a candy trail where little trick-or-treaters can stock up. Costumes are welcome for guests of all ages, so go ahead and dress the whole crew as sharks. Even better, during Kids Free October, kids go free with a paid adult ticket, including Spooktacular weekends.

Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through October 31, 2026 | About 10 miles from Pacific Terrace

When the sun sets, the Zoo lights up. HalGLOWeen adds glowing decor, live music from a skeleton band, character meet-and-greets, and after-dark fun starting at 5 p.m., all included with admission. It is another natural place to use Kids Free October, since children 11 and younger enter free with an adult who has valid admission.

The savings do not stop at the park gates. All October, kids 12 and under stay free and dine free with the purchase of an adult entrée at Terrace Café, and Kids Camp adds a s'mores treat to the fun. See the Kids Free October offer.

Halloween After Dark

When the sun goes down, the spooky season gets a sophisticated side. Think atmospheric bars, clever cocktails and a little theater, perfect for date night or a night out with friends.

Oculto 477 in Old Town

Reservation-only speakeasy next to El Campo Santo Cemetery | About 6 miles from Pacific Terrace

Hidden inside Tahona, this speakeasy sits beside one of San Diego's oldest cemeteries, and its name is a nod to the 477 people buried next door. Before you sip, you confess to one of the seven deadly sins, then settle into a dimly lit room for cocktails inspired by each one. Plan ahead with a reservation, and bring a clear conscience (or a good story).

The Nightmare Bar

October 8 to 31, 2026 | Downtown San Diego | 11 miles from Pacific Terrace

This 21+ Halloween pop-up turns a downtown space into a spooky playground with horror-inspired decor, themed cocktails, interactive games, and photo-worthy backdrops. Sessions run about 90 minutes, which is just enough time to sip, play, and strike a pose before the scares catch up with you. Costumes are strongly encouraged.

The Cocooning at MOTHERSHIP

October 13 to November 1, 2026 | North Park| 12.5 miles from Pacific Terrace

MOTHERSHIP is a sci-fi-themed, tiki-style bar with a speakeasy feel, and for Halloween it goes gloriously otherworldly with The Cocooning, a seasonal immersive experience paired with spooky cocktails. Expect an atmospheric evening that feels like a date night on another planet.

Candlelight: A Haunted Evening of Halloween Classics

October 23 and 24, 2026 | Mt. Helix Park| 20 miles from Pacific Terrace

For a more elegant take on Halloween, few experiences compare to a candlelit concert filled with hauntingly beautiful music. Candlelight's Halloween-themed performances feature classical renditions of seasonal favorites in atmospheric venues illuminated by hundreds of candles. It is a romantic, sophisticated way to celebrate the season and a great alternative to crowded bars or costume parties.
