Thanksgiving 2015 in San Diego
Whether you're a San Diego local or in town over the Thanksgiving holidays visiting family and friends, you might be looking for something beyond the usual turkey, pumpkin pie and football traditions. Not that we don't love those, but it's always exciting to shake things up! Before or after wrestling over the wishbone and third helpings of stuffing, here are some suggestions for things to do close to Pacific Terrace Hotel in San Diego.
Ice Skating: Lace up your skates, whether rentals or bringing your own, and head out onto the ice at Liberty Station, 2640 Historic Decatur Road, 8 miles southeast from Pacific Terrace Hotel. Fantasy on Ice supports the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders. Daytime sessions are perfect for bringing the kids! The rink is open daily 10 AM-10 PM, Nov. 19, 2015-Jan. 3, 2016. It is closed Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.
Tide Pools: Get off the couch and head outdoors into the bracing sea salty air! Tide pooling is a lot of fun in winter, when the Pacific Ocean tides are low along California's west coast. You might see crabs, mollusks and starfish. Remind little explorer to look and not touch the critters that live in these fragile ecosystems.
Thanksgiving Day 5K: Really earn your turkey, mashed potatoes and stuffing, and justify those second helping of pumpkin pie by first participating in a holiday fun run! Father Joe's Villages Thanksgiving Day 5K is a fundraiser for those less fortunate. They provide 3,000 meals each day to the homeless and those in need. The run begins at Spreckels Pavilion in Balboa Park, 11 miles southeast from Pacific Terrace Hotel, at 7:30 AM.
