The big news about this year's Fashion Week San Diego is that it has moved up the road a piece to La Jolla. Open to members of the fashion world and to the general public who are fans of fashion, this annual glittery get-together kicks off on Monday, September 28 and goes through Saturday, October 3. The only bi-national fashion week anywhere, Fashion Week San Diego is more than just a string of runway shows. It's a boatload of workshops, pre-show events, and tons and tons of promotions. And while the goal is to focus on the local beauty and fashion industry, the end result is catapulting the world's designers who are starting to make a name for themselves into the spotlight, from national magazines and TV shows to other leading fashion weeks and even major retailers.
While the Alumni Mixer on September 28 is the official opening of Fashion Week San Diego, it really shifts into high gear with the Art & Beauty Runway Show on Thursday, October 1. It will feature Ted Gibson, celebrity hairstylist, along with beautiful models who, instead of clothing, will be showcasing the latest trends in hair and makeup. The next night, Friday, October 2, will be the Runway Show featuring an array of designers presenting couture, gowns, ready-to-wear, and jewels. The third and final night, Saturday, October 3, is dedicated to swimwear, womenswear, and menswear. Plus, the 3rd Annual Haute Dog Runway Show will feature dogs that are available for adoption making their way up and down the runway.
